Program Highlights
- “Character” exercises that participants could use with their school or community to illustrate the purpose of character development in action.
- An intellectual framework for character development and the connections between character education and social and emotional learning and positive student development.
- School character, climate, and culture team activities.
- A taxonomy of components of character development showing a multi-faceted, multiple strategy approach to implementation.
- Five roundtables with experienced practitioners.
- School Planning Time will be provided for individuals and teams to look at next steps. Good leaders have a pocketful of visions… some for years ahead and some for the next months.
Participants will:
- Review the key components and principles of character development and the links to academic achievement.
- Explore the depth and breadth of promising research-based practices.
- Expand their understanding of how to infuse
character development into school policies, practices, programs and interactions with students.
- Learn how to involve staff, students and the
community in character development initiatives.
- Learn how to deepen the involvement and participation of students in character development initiatives.
- Plan with their leadership team how to build on character education initiatives currently in place in schools to develop school-wide character education initiatives.
