Past Conversation: Promoting Literacy with Graphic Novels |
||||||
| We are delighted to have David and Kathy join us to talk about their newest book In Graphic Detail. This graphic mode of storytelling connects the enthusiasm of young adults for graphic novels with one of education's central goals-promoting literacy by encouraging extensive reading and reflective responses . The authors will illustrate strategies for incorporating graphic novels into school programs [grades 4-12] using different dynamics, including “bursting the graphic bubble”, “bringing panels alive” and “readers theatre”. A renowned educator and professor emeritus at OISE/U, David Booth is an award-winning author of books for educators, parents and children. A distinguished educator and author, Kathy Gould Lundy is the Course Direct for Destination Arts at York University. Her interest lies in teaching those hard to reach young people who keep parents and teachers awake at night. |
